DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION
Humboldt County is home to a rich diversity of communities. Indigenous nations, Latino farmworkers, the LGBTQ+ community, immigrants, and people of many backgrounds and abilities. The HCDCC is committed to building a county where everyone belongs and everyone thrives.
We affirm:
The sovereignty and rights of the Wiyot, Yurok, Karuk, Hupa, and all tribal nations of the North Coast, and support for government-to-government relationships built on genuine respect and partnership
Full civil rights and equal protection under the law for LGBTQ+ individuals and families, including strong opposition to anti-trans legislation at every level of government
The dignity and rights of Humboldt County's immigrant and farmworker communities, and opposition to immigration enforcement that tears families apart
Equity in public education, healthcare, housing, and economic opportunity with particular attention to closing gaps for communities of color and rural communities
A county government and Democratic Party that reflects the full diversity of the people we serve
DEI is not a slogan. It is the ongoing, necessary work of building a democracy that includes everyone.
